After:
Project Challenge: The age of the home proved to have substantial structural challenges. The floors in this portion of the house (circa 1780) had settled due to the house shifting. The floors were two to three inches lower on the edges than in the middle of the room. The entire kitchen and pantry area s were gutted. The sills were replaced, windows were closed up, and new windows were added. The walls were torn down to the studs, the floor was jacked up and braced, new cabinets and high end appliances were installed. In the pantry area, the old tile floor was removed and replaced with antique boards that were found in the attic.
Result: This richly appointed kitchen includes special touches like a 16 foot custom cut soapstone unpolished granite countertop, commercial grade 6 burner stove and custom designed hood. The custom cabinets were designed to match the period of the home. Because the house still had a slight tilt, Bob tilted the custom molding to give the cabinets an appearance that they had been in the home for centuries. The existing large walk in fireplace is now also a highlight of the room.
According to the homeowner, Celeste Edwards of Newbury, MA: "Bob Williams took great care to close off the main house while renovating the kitchen and pantry areas. Bob has a wonderful knowledge of and has worked on, a number of antique homes. Bob took great care to make sure that the antique features were carried out throughout the renovated areas. "
"I was in Europe during the entire renovation. Bob not only emailed me, he also phoned and sent photographs showing me the progress of the renovation. If there were issues to be addressed, Bob would send detailed photographs of areas along with his recommendations. Having been in the construction industry and an interior designer, it was nice that I could see the materials used during the renovation. I was very impressed. The redesign has added significant value to my home, not only because of the upgrade of materials but also because of Bob's great attention to detail and his work. Bob also has a wonderful crew of polite, considerate men."
