Spring Time Tips
How To Give Your Mower The 4-Point Tune-Up.
As we move into prime lawn-mowing season, it's
time to give your mower a quick and easy tune-up.
Maintaining your mower will save you
trouble, money, and even help protect our
environment!
- Change the air filter: A clogged air filter
will cause your mower to consume more gas
than needed. It will also cause more
hydrocarbon emissions, which are harmful to
the air. The air filter should be changed ever
three months or after 25 hours of use.
- Change the oil: Dirty oil in a mower will
cause more engine friction. That friction will
cause you to use more gasoline and it will
decrease the life of the motor. Change your
oil every 50 hours of use. If you have a new
mower, change the oil after the first five
hours of use and then at 50 hour intervals.
- Change the spark plug: A poorly
performing spark plug can be a drain on fuel
and engine parts. Buying and installing a
new spark plug will ensure that your engine
runs smoother for a longer period of time.
The spark plug should be replaced every 100
hours of use.
- Sharpen blades: If you notice your grass
blades beginning to brown at the tips, it's
definitely time to have your mower blades
sharpened. You can use a file to sharpen
your blades. Or, you can have them
professionally sharpened at any lawn mower
repair store.
